Ultrasonic sensors are used in automationing tasks for distance measurement and as proximity switches.
They are measur the propagation time of the sound. This principle ensures a reliable detection irrespective of colour or surface finish. Even transparent objects, liquids and powders are reliably detected. Insensitivity to dirt and long distances are further arguments in favour of ultrasonic sensors.
